As they feared them, and Britain used to spend money in order to help them, hence many people became part of the loyalists group (Florida Studies, pg. 114).

However, the colonies wanted independence from Britain rule, and after two years of fighting, the Declaration of Independence was written in 1776. Which declared that the colonies were finally free from the rule of British oppression.
