In grading your position papers, we will ask the following questions. An A paper will do all the below fluently and compellingly; a B paper will do some, but not all of these items fluently and compellingly; a C paper will show far less fluency in its argumentation and be more mechanical than compelling; a D paper will significantly lack fluency and interest; and an E paper will almost entirely lack both.

  1. Does the paper include an introduction that concretely and concisely provides context; interrupts that context, posing a question or opening a gap in knowledge or relaying a problem in the context; and clearly lays out a position in response to these first two moves? Does this position respond to the prompt?

  1. Does the paper demonstrate a capacity to describe film or television vividly to the reader? And does it do so in a way that shows the interpretive relevance of the descriptions to the position established in the introduction?

  1. Is there a sense of movement from start to finish in the essay? This movement takes three forms: a) from introduction to conclusion; b) from paragraph to paragraph; and c) from topic to concluding sentence of a paragraph.  施工说明代写

  1. Does the paper conclude by synthesizing what we’ve learned from the author in an effective way?

  1. Has the author attended carefully to matters of prose style, editing, and grammar?

  2. Is the paper properly formatted?

For those in Film History who take the “test” option, please keep in mind that the quality of your prose still matters: if you aren’t clear, then it’s much harder to assess your understanding.
