对文内引证进行标明时:

1. 所引材料后面直接点上括号,在括号内标明作家的姓名和页码，但姓名和页码之间不需要点上任何符号。括号后为指出中顿或停顿点上符号。直接引用别人原话时,或该引用是以 “? “ 或 “!” 结尾的, 则后引号、问号或感叹号应置于小括号之前。但括号后还是需加一句号。如：

Mueller also writes：“…The question is how many poets—who are not asyousay, creatures of popculture will continue to reflect this.”

“How do you know it was nothing?” (Hemingway 142).

1. 如果直接引用的部分超过四行, 就所引部分应采用缩进形式, 即左右各缩进五个字母的空间,此时不需要使用引号。这时,括号夹注信息应放在引文最终标点符号的后面,而括号后面则无需再用句号。如：

The same problem troubles another Hemingway couplein Catin the Rain.

At the beginning of it, Hemingway overuses repetitions: The war monument glistened the rain. The rain dropped from the palm trees. Water stood in pools on the gravel paths.

文末参考书目(WORKS CITED)

参考书目是论文非常重要的一部分。如果缺乏了这一部分, 那么即使内容挺好也不能算为一篇完整的论文。所有论文中提到的材料都必须在参考书目中给以比较详细的出处。写参考书目时，请关注下述的规则：

1. 位置

在正文注释部分后开始新页, 在上面中间写出Works Cited，不需要用斜体与下划线。页号按照前一页的顺序号排列的。Works Cited与第一个条目之间应为双倍行距。

2. 条目顺序

参考书目的条目要按作家姓名的字母顺序排列。没有作家的作品, 那按书名的第一个字母顺序,但不算a, an, the这些词语。

3. 缩进

条目的第一行没有缩进，但从第二行开始，每一行应较第一行缩进五个字的空间。

4. 书名

一般书名都要用斜体或下划线表示, 但书对中的一首诗等的标题则，一篇文章、需要用双引号表明。书名和文章标题后用句号,而在杂志，报纸或期刊名称后不需要点上任何符号。

5. 出版地

出版地都一般在书名页上给出的。如果有两个多出版地,需要只选第一个。如果该出版地并不为人所知的，就在写该出版地以后可以加该地所属的州或国家的名称的缩写形式。此时,它们应被逗号分开的, 出版地之后用冒号与出版社隔开。

6. 出版社

出版社名称一般在书名页上写出的，与出版日期被逗号分开的。

7. 出版日期

对于期刊和书名, 只需写出版年。周刊和报纸的话, 先写出版日、出版月，以后写出版年。

8. 缩写

一般需要用缩写形式以在参考书目中写国家或州。出版月除了May, June, July以外,都需要使用缩写的形式。不要写出版社的Press，Company 等等。

9. 次序

每个在参考书目中写的条目都包括三个部分，就是:(1)作家姓氏;(2)书名;(3)出版地、出版社、出版日期。每一部分后都用句号结束。

1. 一本书,一个作家

2. 一本书, 两、三个作家

需要注意: 本书有两个多作家或编者的时候,一般第一个作家或编者先写姓然后是名, 而另外的作家或编者就按一般顺序,即名+姓来写。姓名被逗号分开的, 之前需要加and。

3. 一本书,三个多作家

Britton, James, etal. The Development of Writing Abilities (11-18). London: Macmillan Education, 1975.

Beuah, Robert N., etal. Habits of the Heart: An Introduction to Literary Criticism. Boston: D.C. Heath and Company, 1961.

需要注意: et.al. 是拉丁文“et alibi”的缩写, 意思是“及其他“。

4. 编辑的书

如果编者是一个人, 那就editor 被ed. 替代的。

如果编者为两个多人，那editors是被eds. 代替的。

5. 既有作家又有编者的书

这时要先写作家，然后写书名，以后加ed.，最后才是编者名。

需要注意: 此时作家的姓名用姓+名的顺序，而其后编者的姓名用名+姓的顺序。

6. 翻译的书

Translated被trans.替代的

7. 未署名的作品

这时按书名的第一个字母顺序排列，但不算若第一个字母为a, an, the。

8. 多卷本书中的一卷

Magil, Frank N.,ed. Master plot Ⅱ.vol. 2. New Jersey: Salem Press, 1992.

如果每个卷有独立的标题的话，那就把该卷书的标题及出版信息列出, 然后再列出卷的编号、整卷本的书名、总卷数及出版日期。

9. 系列书中的一本

11.书的前言、引言、后记等

12.重印的书

Gerin, Winifrecd. Emily Bronte: A Biography. 1971. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1972.

需要注意: 1971是第一次出版的时间，1972是以后印刷出版的时间。

Lawrence, D. H. The Lost Girl. 1920. New York: Penguin Book, 1980.

需要注意：如果本书好几次被重印了，这时只需提到第一次出版日期，然后写出你使用本书的出版地、出版社及出版日期即可。

13. 百科全书或字典

此时一般无需指明出版地、出版社,只指出出版日期即可。

14. 选集、文集、文选中的一篇文章

此时文章、标题用引号，出版日期后点上句号，然后写页码。

15. 双月刊或单月刊杂志中的一篇文章

除了作家姓名、文章标题与杂志名称以外，还需列出出版年、月份和该文出现在杂志中的页码。除了May, June, and July，月份都需要用缩写的形式。不用提及第几期及其发行号码。为月刊月份之间还需加上一个连字符。
