The armed forces have recognized the integration of social media in their new forms of communication. In this regard, military leaders have known the impact social media has on the people and are working to restructure army organization culture to incorporate it.
The policies made respond to the realization that a large number of military community is using social media as the primary communication channel and socialization (Miller, 2018). Although this realization is perplexing the impacts of social media use by the military require evaluation by the military leaders .
And policymakers so that they come up with measures and policies for its use in military operations.

Statement of the Problem
The U.S. armed forces operate in the global community and therefore not immune to the impact of social media. Although social media is used to make communication and socialization, it is prone to the misuse and hence can cause irreversible security and privacy issue in the military operations.
Social media has become the new battlefield as more criminal groups, terror groups, external influences, and other pervasive elements like Al-Shabaab and ISIS terrorists are using social media to perpetrate propagandas and source information. Forces who use it as a new opportunity to connect to their friends and families. Armed forces use social media to send messages out in the areas of deployment. The troops are also communicating through the mass of audiences like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. In this section, various literature on social media use and military operations will be critically reviewed and evaluated.Social media is a new phenomenon that has continued to grow at an exponentially high rate. According to Poushter, Bishop, and Chwe (2018), communication technology has advanced and most people today own a smartphone that can access social platforms.
The use of social media has continued to grow in developing countries at a higher rate than that of developed countries. It is, therefore, an indication that conservative societies and bodies are adopting social media use. Much of this is contributable by the growth in internet technologies and Internet-enabled mobile devices.
Poushter, Bishop and Chwe noted that in 2017 there are 53% of the population in developing countries use social media and continue to grow (2018). Most social media users consider it as the cheapest and most effective method of communication and socialization compared to other means of communication.
Research by Walinski (2015) found that the U.S military is yet to embrace social media platforms in information communication. Although the majority of military staff are using social media some are not in support of social media as one of the official platforms of making communications.

Generally, social media is the opportunity of informing the world on what is happening in the battle zones.

The significant threat is the infiltration of the media by criminal groups, terrorist and other perverted groups who are using it to perpetuate their agendas.
Therefore, social platforms have become battle zones between military agencies and criminal groups. Regarding these, there are need to have policies and regulations that will oversee the use of social media in military operations.
