Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This is the first of three assessment tasks. You are required to complete this assessment satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. To complete this task, you are asked to complete all items according to the project specifications outlined in the Assessment Instructions.

This assessment task will show that as the designer you have learnt the necessary skills and knowledge to use the legislation and apply to your designs for residential buildings. This will ensure that compliance is achieved and with current legal responsibilities of building designers for construction methods.

Assessment Instructions

Students are required to read each question contained within this Assessment Task carefully and carry out further research to help them develop and write a clear and concise report.

You are required to research and review Part 5 of the Building Regulations 2018 (the Regulations) contained within this Assessment Task brief. Your answers should be clearly written and set out in a report, with clear referencing to the appropriate legislations. You should support your answers where instructed, with drawings. The word count for this assessment is 2000 words excluding references.

Part A ‐ Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

Prior to commencing, you are required to create an OHS checklist of your workspace and work area. If you are working with another person, this checklist should be completed every time your group meets to work on your project. You should include this completed checklist as part of your report submission. Refer to Worksafe Victoria web site and teaching notes for checklist.
Note, you are required to create your own checklist based on your environmental circumstances and use the checklists contained in the web site, only as a guide to creating the checklist.

Part B ‐ Site identification  建筑法规作业代写

This task will require you to form a group comprising of two students in order to undertake the task. You are able choose a fellow student to form the required group. You will need to list the following in a report format. When applying arguments students will need to provide sound arguments in the written report to design issues and what the solutions will be. Students will need to study Part 5 of the Regulations, which incorporates a series of regulations which relate to the siting of a proposed

Class 1 building.

1 Students need to choose a suburban, residential building of interest and provide location details with the relevant council identified. This information can be obtained from the Government web site https://www.delwp.vic.gov.au/maps/maps-and-spatial-data. Download the document and include it in your report.

Ensure the site you choose is not less than 500m2 in size

2 Provide a detailed written description of the chosen residence. You are to also include a site plan prepared by you, which identifies the residence in relation to the site. Ensure the drawings are fully notated and the site identified. Provide photos and, or other methods to clearly communicate your understanding of the site you have chosen.

Part C ‐ Regulatory analysis 建筑法规作业代写

The questions in this part of the assessment task aim to demonstrate your understanding of Part 5 of the Regulations and your understanding of a specific Regulation which you will choose from those listed below.

1 Outline the hierarchy of the building legislation.

2 Identify the classification of the building you have chosen, as noted in the National Construction Code – Volume Two (NCC).

3 What is the intent of Part 5 of the Regulations?

4 You are to choose from one of the following two nominated regulations from the Regulations.

a) Regulation 79 – Side and rear setback.
b) Regulation 84 – Overlooking.
Include in your Report an introduction to the regulation you will be referencing. You will need to identify the intent of the regulation and describe the purpose of this regulation. Ensure you include in your report the use of correct terminology which relates to the regulation that you have been discussing. Ensure that you explain
the regulation and each sub regulation contained.

5 Create a scenario which will require the report and consent to be obtained from the relevant Council to permit an alternative design which does not meet the requirements of your chosen regulation. You are to include sound written arguments which will justify why in your opinion, the report and consent should be
granted by the relevant Council. You are to use the Minister’s Guideline and refer to the relevant section to justify your arguments. Describe and draw the building that will be used in the report. This will support your findings.

Notes:

i) When preparing your report it is essential you use the correct terminology which relates to the regulation that you have been discussing.
ii) Provide yours answers in relation to each question.
iii) The report is to include diagrams which are fully annotated and labelled.
iv) The word count for the Assessment Task is 2000 words.

Students will need to include the name and students ID as well as the course information.


  1. You must submit all assessment evidence as instructed. Your assessor will assess the documentation you provide.


  2. You must be observed undertaking this task by a qualified assessor


  3. Your assessor will negotiate a suitable time and location for assessment at least one week prior to theassessment taking place


  4. You must complete the task within the maximum allowed duration.


  5. You must submit all documents listed in the task instructions.


  6. All documents must meet the criteria to the standard described in the marking guide to be deemed satisfactory in this assessment


  7. This is a group supported task. You must complete the task with minimal support, other than your fellow student within the group. You must submit your own individualtask.


  8. Please make arrangements with your assessor at least one week prior to the assessment due date if you feel you require special allowance or allowable adjustment to this task


  9. You must complete all the actions as listed in the observation checklist to the standard described in Section B to be deemed satisfactory in this assessment


  10. Please ensure your full and correct name is written on the student version of this assessment task (do not use nicknames or abbreviations)


  11. You will be assessed as satisfactory or not satisfactory.


  12. You will have the opportunity to resubmit any product deemed unsatisfactory (one resubmit is allowed per unit).


  13. You can appeal the assessment decision according to the RMIT Assessment Processes.
