Recently, I received an email from a student who took my tango class, saying that he was inspired by the lesson and it turned out to be a life changing experience for him. He said the communication he learned in partner dance made him communicate with others more effectively in his life. I was touched that I made such an impact on someone’s life! I wish that happens everyday as dancing has also changed my life in many ways.
Unlike most other dancers, I started studying dancing when I was a teenager. Though considered too old for training in classical ballet, I was determined to stretch and practice everyday. I set the various movements as my milestones and after some time, my body became more flexible and tuned enough for me to reach those milestones.
Now I am a committed dancer and instructor in salsa and Argentina tango. This experience taught me everything is possible if I try hard enough! I used this experience while working in Yuanta, where I drove to take initiatives and successfully launched the largest and first tailor made structured product deal, contributing to sizable revenue growth while securing a new profit source.
Over the past of fifteen years, dancing has taken me around the world giving me insight in to their unique culture backgrounds and enabling me to incorporate different dance techniques
Specifically, I was so drawn to Flamenco that in 2005. I journeyed to Seville, Spain to take classes with the masters. In competing in ”Flamenco Fuego Fantastico”, my team was highly praised by the audience. I brought this same passion to my deal sourcing at Prodigy. I pushed hard and negotiated adroitly with capital market underwriters to secure CB allocations from sources that were previously inaccessible to Prodigy.
My interest in Salsa, however, was sparked in Italy. Salsa’s social and impromptu nature developed my ability to react quickly while integrating all techniques and allowing me to display my social skills. To fully interpret its syncretic genre, I engaged myself in studying Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian dance. In 2006 I joined Blue Sky Salsa Dance, a performance group organized by a former Broadway dancer. In 2007, I founded the Taipei Salsa Association to promote Latin dance through instruction and performance. I went on to organize the first Taipei International Salsa Festival with dancers from over 20 countries. We introduced a new salsa genre, New York Style Salsa, originated solely in NYC. The NY style has provided a perfect platform where I can apply my creativity and develop my own style.
I have also studied Argentina Tango in Buenos Aires. Tango is unique in that it is heavily based on improvisation and musicality. Furthermore, the social manners inherent to Tango are very different from manners in Asian society. I currently instruct Tango at the Rhythm Del Sol dance studio where we donate the monthly Tango party income in the form of free dance lessons. I am glad that through my passion for dance I can impact society in a positive manner.
Standing here I would like to share this energy with my Stern fellows!
